Major-element geochemistry of pelites

چکیده
Abstract Pelites (shales and mudstones) are arguably the most important rock type for interpreting metamorphism. Their significance derives from their widespread occurrence range of mineral assemblages they develop at different conditions pressure temperature. We compiled a global database 5729 major-element whole-rock analyses pelites metamorphic grades to granulite-facies paragneisses) (1) determine an average composition, (2) examine variability in (3) assess if there is evidence grade-related geochemical changes. Median values given instead eliminate effect extremes. The median worldwide pelite as follows (anhydrous, wt%): SiO2 = 64.13, TiO2 0.91, Al2O3 19.63, FeOtotal 6.85, MnO 0.08, MgO 2.41, CaO 0.65, Na2O 1.38, K2O 3.95. XMg MgO/(MgO + FeOtotal) moles 0.39. XFe3+ 2 × Fe2O3/(2 Fe2O3 FeO) was measured 1964 samples 0.23. On Al2O3-FeO-MgO (AFM) diagram, plots within strong clustering between projected molar 0.30–0.55 (median 0.42) AMs [Al2O3 – (3 K2O)]/[Al2O3 K2O) MgO] 0.0–0.4 0.19). show continuous decrease volatile content with increasing meta-morphic grade diagenetic biotite zone. Lower higher porphyroblast subsolidus sillimanite or K-feldspar zones, well garnet zone, may reflect sampling bias metasomatism.

Minor Element Geochemistry of Lakemichigan Ferromanganese Nodules
Samples of ferromanganese nodules from several localities in Lake Michigan have been analyzed for their minor element content utilizing neutron activation techniques. The thorium and uranium levels in Lake Michigan nodules exhibit marked dissimilarities with marine nodules. The radium content of these freshwater nodules is substantially higher than the reported marine values. The concentrations...
متن کاملMajor Advances in Exploration Geochemistry, 1998-2007
Exploration geochemistry continues to be a major contributor to mineral exploration programs at all scales. The decade has spanned a complete economic cycle in the minerals industry, during which there has been a change in exploration emphasis from the dominance of Au and diamonds to the addition of a range of base metals and the recent revival of U exploration. Increasing metal prices and the ...
متن کاملContinued Investigation of the Light Element Geochemistry of Tagish Lake
Introduction: Preliminary analysis of the light element stable isotope geochemistry of the Tagish Lake primitive carbonaceous chondrite showed that it was a carbonate-rich meteorite containing abundant presolar grains [1, 2]. Tagish Lake seemed to be more carbon-rich than CI chondrites, with over 5 wt. % carbon distributed almost equally between organic and inorganic (mostly carbonate) componen...
